Supporting reporting on Closing the Gap

The information repository to support reporting on Closing the Gap is being developed in stages.

The latest update to the dashboard and the fifth Annual Data Compilation Report were released on 30 July 2025.

About

The Closing the Gap Information Repository comes from the National Agreement on Closing the Gap (the Agreement). The purpose of the information repository is to inform reporting on progress in Closing the Gap.

The information repository includes a dashboard and Annual Data Compilation Report:

  • The dashboard provides the most up-to-date information available on the targets and indicators in the Agreement. The data will be available in different formats including visual.
  • The Annual Data Compilation Report provides a point-in-time snapshot of the dashboard material.

The information repository is produced by the Productivity Commission.

The Agreement specified 23 targets and 164 supporting indicators across the Priority Reforms and socio-economic outcome areas. It has not been possible to report data against all targets/indicators from the commencement of the Agreement. The Productivity Commission is working with the Parties to the Agreement to develop the Information Repository. Reporting against targets, supporting indicators and further supporting material will be added over time.

When reviewing the material on the Information Repository, it is important to remember that behind the numbers reported are individuals who have a story and who have made a decision to identify as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person when the data was collected. The Productivity Commission and the Parties to the Agreement wish to acknowledge all people that have contributed to the stories shared through this Information Repository, as well as those who have chosen not to identify but whose stories remain important. For further information on the histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in data, see Indigenous story-telling through the data (by Dr Scott Avery, descendant of the Worimi people and professor of Indigenous disability health and wellbeing in the School of Public Health, University of Technology Sydney).

Planned updates for 2025

Following the July update, no further dashboard updates are planned for 2025. Advice on the timing and content of Closing the Gap dashboard updates in 2026 will be provided once these are approved by the Parties to the Agreement.
